Automated Cloud Backup & Rapid Disaster Recovery

Ransomware attacks, accidental database drops, and hardware crashes can destroy an unprepared business in minutes. Pakala Software implements enterprise 3-2-1 backup architectures with immutable storage, automated testing, and guaranteed Recovery Time Objectives (RTO < 30 mins).

3-2-1 Architecture 3 copies, 2 different storage media, 1 immutable off-site location
RTO < 30 Minutes Rapid recovery time objective to restore full operations after an incident
RPO < 15 Minutes Low recovery point objective ensuring near-zero lost transactional data
Ransomware Immunity Object Lock write-once-read-many (WORM) storage preventing deletion

Production Engineering & System Design

Automated Disaster Recovery Architecture

Every corporate deployment demands rigorous engineering discipline. We avoid bloated generic frameworks in favor of clean, strictly typed, deterministic logic that maintains data integrity, handles edge cases gracefully, and scales seamlessly across multi-node topologies.

Technical Standards

Engineering Guarantees

  • Data Integrity ACID transactions, strict foreign key constraints, and mathematical double-entry ledgers.
  • Security & Encryption AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.3 in transit, and granular Role-Based Access Control (RBAC).
  • Observability Real-time Prometheus telemetry, structured JSON audit logs, and automated uptime alerts.
  • Zero Vendor Lock-in Self-contained Docker compose or native binaries with zero mandatory monthly seats.
3-2-1 Standard

Enterprise 3-2-1 Redundancy

Maintain primary database replication, hourly local server snapshots, and encrypted off-site replication to an isolated AWS S3 bucket in a separate region.

Ransomware Defense

Immutable WORM Cloud Storage

Configure AWS S3 Object Lock in Compliance Mode. Even if an attacker gains root server access, historical backups cannot be deleted or encrypted.

Automated Drills

Automated Restore Drills

A backup is only as good as its restore. Our systems spin up automated staging sandboxes weekly to verify database integrity and test recovery speed.

Point-in-Time

Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR)

Continuous PostgreSQL write-ahead log (WAL) archiving allows restoring your financial database to the exact minute prior to an accidental data corruption.

Disaster Recovery Metric Pakala 3-2-1 Managed Recovery Manual External USB Drive Standard Web Host Backup
Ransomware Resistance Immutable WORM storage (cannot be wiped) Vulnerable if plugged into infected workstation Vulnerable if hosting account is compromised
Recovery Time Objective (RTO) < 30 minutes to spin up replica in cloud Hours or days to locate drive and rebuild Days waiting for hosting support tickets
Restore Verification Automated weekly spin-up testing Untested until actual disaster strikes Untested (often fails during real crisis)
Point-in-Time Precision Restore to exact minute before corruption Last night’s backup only (loses entire day) Last week’s snapshot only

Frequently Asked Technical & Commercial Questions

Straightforward answers directly from our senior engineering and solutions team.

Q: How does immutable storage protect our business against ransomware?

Ransomware typically targets backup directories first to prevent recovery. By enabling AWS S3 Object Lock, the cloud storage provider physically forbids any deletion, modification, or overwriting of backup files for a specified retention period (e.g. 90 days), even with root credentials.

Q: What is the difference between RTO and RPO?

RPO (Recovery Point Objective) is the maximum age of data lost (e.g. 15 minutes of transactions). RTO (Recovery Time Objective) is the maximum time it takes to get your system back online (e.g. 30 minutes after an outage).

Q: Can we restore individual corrupted tables without restoring the entire database?

Yes. Our database point-in-time recovery tooling allows restoring a parallel staging database, extracting only the affected tables or rows, and merging them back into production without overwriting recent transactions.

Q: Do you backup our workstations and file servers as well as cloud servers?

Yes. We deploy automated cross-platform backup agents that secure critical local accounting folders, Tally data folders, and CAD files to private encrypted cloud storage.
